People Who Have Changed Their Careers Talk About Their Real Reasons for Changing Jobs.
What is the secret to choosing a job without compromise?

The two engineers, each with a different career background, are now active on the front lines of manufacturing as members of Seedea. What were their reasons for choosing Seedea? They will talk honestly about how they feel after changing jobs, and also about the curious topics of salary and working conditions.

First of all, can you tell us how you both made your
respective career changes?

  • T.Y.

I used to work as a developer for a manufacturer, but after using IoT products in my private time, I became interested in planning and developing those products myself, which prompted me to change my career.

  • S.S.

Couldn’t you get involved in IoT work at that manufacturer?

  • T.Y.

The company didn’t handle consumer products. I even proposed IoT as a new business idea at a planning meeting, but we were unable to realize it because the nature of the work is completely different from what the company had been doing. I almost gave up the plan at one point, but as I came into contact with IoT products every day, as most of us do, ideas for IoT products started popping into my head one after another, and my desire to be involved in their development grew stronger, so I decided to change my job.

  • S.S.

I see. It’s nice to learn about your passion for your job. I have been involved in the development of several cloud systems for local governments. When I began to feel a degree of confidence in the knowledge and experience I had accumulated at work, I was assigned to a project that was different from the ones I had been involved in until then.

  • T.Y.

Is that right? Wouldn’t you have been able to use your skills in that new project?

  • S.S.

The company I was with before was not that big, and the projects I could work on seemed to depend on luck, so they didn’t listen to me at all when I wanted to work as an engineer. You are right – I was confident that my skills could meet expectations, but just as I was beginning to understand what makes customers happy and what they care about, I asked myself if I really wanted to stay the same, and decided to change my job because I thought it would be a waste of time if I stayed.

Why did you choose Seedea over manufacturers
or other companies?

  • T.Y.

From my experience at my previous job, or rather, when I worked for a manufacturer and then wanted to get involved in something completely different as times change, I decided that I would rather work for a company that has more flexibility and expertise in staff dispatching and outsourcing services than giving up my desire because of the manufacturer’s job environment. Just as I was looking for new employment, I came across Seedea – they listened to my hopes and concerns. I remember it was like a dream come true, and how happy I was to be assigned to a project centered on the IoT because the job matched my aptitude, knowledge, and skills.

  • S.S.

In my case, I didn’t know where to look for work. Although I was involved in cloud systems for local governments, it didn’t mean that I was directly employed by them. Even if that were the case, what would happen to my job after the development was completed in that local government? My job would probably move on to a maintenance or management stage, but I would be unhappy because I wanted to be involved in development all the time. I tried looking for a company that offered a job similar to my previous one, but could not find employment that met my expectations. Through an acquaintance, I talked with Seedea. Although it was not exactly what I wanted, I was assigned to a job developing a cloud system for a local government. At the time, I was somewhat uncertain about the job that did not completely match what I wanted, but I am very glad that I consulted with Seedea, because I am sure there is no such thing as a perfect job, and I am able to use my knowledge, experience, and skills for the job I’ve got.

  • T.Y.

I am grateful to the person who introduced me to the company.

  • S.S.

Indeed. To be honest, at the time, I was not feeling very positive, thinking I was talking to Seedea because “someone introduced me to the company,” “It is partly a social obligation,” or “I have nothing to lose anyway,” but the person in charge of the interview listened to me kindly. I was finding it difficult to communicate and to explain my hopes and concerns with words, but they carefully listened to me, though I could not express myself well, and helped me to clarify them for me in a way that made sense to me. That made me happy.

  • T.Y.

And that was their shrewd tactic?

  • S.S.

You could say that, but interviews are quite nerve-wracking, aren’t they? They also make you anxious. When I had my interview at Seedea, I was nervous at the beginning, wondering how I could communicate my thoughts. However, my tension had simply dissipated and I found myself speaking passionately. Seedea has a wide variety of jobs, so the people interviewing me were also very experienced in understanding different types of jobs; they did not take a one-size-fits-all approach, and I felt as if I was asking them for advice, rather than being interviewed.

  • T.Y.

That’s true. They also listened to me attentively about my hopes and concerns.

What do you think about
the working environment at Seedea?

  • T.Y.

I feel it is refreshing to talk with other engineers at internal study sessions the company holds regularly: I learn about values and perspectives I don’t have, and how they view things from a different angle. Even in my previous job, I had found it interesting to hear different opinions and values when talking to people from different kinds of work (those working in back office, production lines, etc.), but somewhere along the way, I had accepted that we think differently because we do different jobs. However, at Seedea, engineers come from all kinds of field, so it is not unusual for me to get good inspiration from people who seem to require similar skill sets.

  • S.S.

I also often feel that way. Probably, we can have such experiences thanks to the characteristics of Seedea. I find Seedea’s evaluation and payroll system easy to understand. I am impressed how well the company has put together the system despite the wide variety of professions. I can see my strong and weak points, which encourages me to improve my work in the future. Also, if the company recognizes my efforts to improve in response to the results of the previous evaluation, it will lead to a raise in salary, so in that sense, the system is easy to understand and makes my job rewarding.

Finally, please tell us about your future
career paths with Seedea.

  • S.S.

I would like to be involved in the development of cloud systems for local government for a while longer, just as I am doing now. Since Seedea has bases in Kanto, Kansai, and Kyushu, I expect to concentrate on my job for some time to come.

  • T.Y.

Are you willing to be transferred?

  • S.S.

It is not that I want to relocate, but I have changed my job because I wanted to be involved in the work I prefer; I am willing to relocate, if necessary, to realize it. Maybe I can say that because I have such a fulfilling job.

  • T.Y.

That’s wonderful. I am not looking to relocate, but would like to continue working in IoT development for some time. However, technological innovation seems to evolve every day, so if I want to try something different sometime in the future, I would consult with the company.

  • S.S.

This is the strength of Seedea: it has a wide variety of jobs. Whether you want to pursue what you want to do or take on a new job, I hope you will consult with Seedea and take advantage of our strength.
